Can We Talk About Our Broken, Southern Border?

We can no longer remain silent about our porous, cartel-controlled, southwest border and the astronomical number of illegal immigrants crossing it daily--including kids who are forcibly trafficked.

I recently watched Sound of Freedom—TWICE—and I cannot stop ruminating on what I witnessed regarding the sex trafficking of children. Over 2 million are sex- and labor-trafficked each year? The US is the biggest consumer of child pornography? Mexico is the biggest producer? One of the main traffickers in the movie is a woman! A female luring young children into a life of broken bodies and broken spirits was actually quite a surprise to me. She was devoid of any semblance of maternal instincts.

However, a not-so-surprise was how a porous border could help to facilitate the trafficking of children and the horrific results that have been borne out.

(Geographically, I will focus on our US-Mexico Southwest Border that spans the southern tip of California to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.)

Our border, to put it bluntly, is an open MESS—contrary to what Secretary Mayorkas has stated often in congressional testimony. However, the public is not fooled. Gallup recently conducted a poll for adults, asking their thoughts on the border, and compared responses from 2019 to June 2023.

72% of adults, according to Gallup, stated that our southern border is a crisis or a major problem. Yet, no resolution of any real substance is staunching the flow.

When Trump occupied the White House, the number of illegal encounters was, loosely speaking, “manageable”. Despite the bluster and bombast of the media regarding his “inhumane” policies, they were slowing the flow. It should be noted that once Biden took office in January 2021 and commenced to undoing Trump’s policies, the illegal encounters trended upward at an alarming rate. IF YOU DON’T LOOK AT ANYTHING ELSE, PLEASE LOOK AT THE ABOVE CHART! If you look at fiscal year 2020 (Oct 1, 2019-Sept. 30, 2020) through Trump’s last month in office (January 2021), what do you notice in February 2021? The encounters jump from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands almost immediately! And so far they have not returned to those lower numbers since Biden has been in office—despite the lifting of Title 42.

When you take a look at the number of criminal convictions (below chart) from FY19 and FY20 (Trump’s latter years in office) and compare them to FY21, FY22 and FY23TD (under Biden) clearly the policies that have been enacted over the last 2-1/2 years are not working and are absolutely detrimental to our country. The number of terrorists apprehended, 143 as of July 28, does not reflect the number of terror watchlist “gotaways” who slipped into the country unnoticed. It is estimated that there have been over 1 million “gotaways”—those who do NOT want to be caught and have NOT been caught.

In the chart below, we see the number of encounters for the Northern Triangle and Mexico, but who are these “Other”(s)? What countries are they coming from?

In the press release below, on the CBP website (before it was removed or re-located), we get a glimpse of who some of these other countries are: Eritrea, Uzbekistan, Syria, Lebanon. Additionally we have seen large numbers from Haiti, China and Russia. Over 150 countries mentioned in recent articles.

RFK Jr. recently visited the Yuma, AZ border in June 2023 and created a documentary about what he saw and what he feels needs to be addressed. It’s only 19 minutes long, but it succinctly encapsulates the process that illegal border crossers experience—from their home country to the final destination of their choice in America. Additionally, he also was very surprised that the majority of the illegal immigrants he questioned, several hundred, were from locations other than those of Latin America: China (a lot), Nepal, Tibet, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, almost every country in West Africa, etc. View below:

Generally speaking, if you want a succinct overview of what happens at the border (Yuma, AZ sector), then PLEASE WATCH RFK JR.’S VIDEO ABOVE, 18:56. It is no-holds barred, discussing, among other things: the Rape Tree, inferior wall being built that does not halt the use of tunnels by cartels, airplane and bus tickets to wherever immigrants want to go (reimbursed by FEMA), examination room where sexually abused kids (by coyotes and cartel members) on the journey are aided, etc.

Because we have had MILLIONS of people cross our border, they have to be housed somewhere. Border towns cannot accommodate such a massive flow of humanity. Many have been bussed and flown to cities and towns throughout America. Right now, two sanctuary cities, Chicago and New York, are bursting at the seams. Additionally, emotions are boiling over as some residents feel that they are being short-shrifted in favor of the newcomers.

Now, humans are not the only commodity crossing the border. Drugs, particularly fentanyl, have exploded in the last couple of years—leading to thousands more deaths of American citizens. The drug cartels can “smuggle” just about anything across our border with impunity; indeed, they make millions each month.

Which brings me back to my opening: the ease at which unaccompanied minors are sex- and labor-trafficked across our porous southern border. To underscore this horrific reality, it is reported that there are at least 85,000 missing children who are unaccounted for who crossed our border in the last couple of years. The number might be over 100,000 now. There should be a hue and cry emanating from every corner of our land!

Tara Rodas, a 20-year government employee, volunteered to help match illegal immigrant children to their US sponsors at a refugee resettlement camp in Pomona, CA. What she saw there propelled her to become a congressional whistleblower. “I thought I was going to help place children in loving homes,” Rodas said. “Instead, I discovered that children are being trafficked through a sophisticated network that begins with being recruited in home country, smuggled to the US border, and ends when ORR delivers a child to a Sponsor – some sponsors are criminals and traffickers and members of Transnational Criminal Organizations.”

The rapid DNA testing at the border helped to ensure that the adults traveling with children were indeed their relatives. And it was working. Why would Biden end something working so well? This decision increased the odds of a child ending up with someone who may have nefarious intentions.

My heart aches that children, the least of these, are being exploited because our border policies are not conducive to their welfare—or the welfare of the average American citizen. Things need to change—NOW.
