Snopes 'Fesses Up After 7-Year Fact-Check Lie About Trump
So the Charlottesville "fine people on both sides" hoax in which the legacy media and "fact checkers" pilloried Trump, was a LIE? Many of us knew that already, because we did our own research.
In August 2017, in Charlottesville, VA, there was a violent confrontation between neo-Nazis/white supremacists and Antifa and other counter protestors. The neo-Nazis were protesting the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue from a public park, and the other side was protesting the presence of said white supremacists.
One of the neo-Nazis ended up driving his car into the counter-protestors, killing a young woman, Heather Heyer, and injuring 19 others.
At a press conference shortly thereafter, Trump was asked about the event. His comments included, “…But you had people that were very fine people, on both sides.” When the mainstream media aired the video, they shared those words, but purposely did not include this qualifier from Trump: “And you had people, and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists….”
When you watch the longer video, it is clear that he was saying that there were fine people on both sides of the issue, i.e. those who supported the removal of the statue and those who didn’t—and who were not part of the violent rabble.
It is worth watching the 2:27 video below to get the full context of Trump’s words and intent.
Snopes and the legacy/corporate/mainstream/acela media only showed/aired the first sentence without including the qualifier, making it seem like Trump was supporting the neo-Nazis by looking upon them favorably as fine people.
For SEVEN years, Snopes has maintained that Trump favoring the neo-Nazis with his words was true. Now, they have reversed course. Why are they reversing course right now?

Be that as it may, this is yet another example of a pernicious lie perpetrated against Trump, where the truth was out there, but Snopes and many other mainstream media outlets refused to acknowledge the truth.
The 1:10 video below shows Anderson Cooper in frame 1 talking about right-wing media selectively editing videos of Biden; frame 2 shows Cooper and CNN selectively editing a video of Trump about Charlottesville; frame 3 shows Trump’s words that refute the lie that Snopes and mainstream media perpetuated.
An illustration of just how pervasive the Charlottesville “fine people on both sides” hoax became, was Joe Biden using it as a reason to run for president. (See 45-second video clip below.)
For extra measure, the video below is a compilation of Trump disavowing white supremacy on multiple occasions.
Those of you who have believed all these lies for all these years against Trump, who have been duped by left-leaning fact checkers and mainstream media who hate Trump, I really hope you will think about who and what you are listening to when it comes to your media choices.
We all should be offended by media’s intentional, lying manipulation of the masses; that’s the main reason why trust in media is so low. People are waking up.

I often share the chart below to challenge people. If you consume most of your media sources from one side of the chart, then add a few sources from the other side. You will NOT get a full picture of events if you are consuming only one side; you are existing in an echo chamber that’s feeding your belief system without a challenge to its veracity—and that’s not being a well-informed citizen. Also, do not neglect consuming material from investigative and independent journalists; you don’t want to be duped again by a major lie perpetrated by “fact-checking” sites like Snopes and of legacy media.
We all need to be as well-informed as possible—and not feel we have to constantly double-check the veracity of our news sources.
Many denied he ever said that and offered his actual words but no one was interested. After all, they had a narrative to perpetuate.
Snopes is a reliable, unbiased fact checker
